Agora Models Lotus Esprit The Spy Who Loved Me

Het tweede model in de James Bond-serie van Agora Models is een bijzonder voertuig: de Lotus Esprit duikboot uit de film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

The second model in the James Bond series from Agora Models is a special vehicle: the Lotus Esprit submarine from the film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

Begin december 2023 werd het model officieel aangekondigd in de nieuwsbrief van het Britse bedrijf en aan het eind van de maand begon de voorverkoop. En zoals gezegd is de Lotus Esprit het tweede voertuig in de 007-serie van het bedrijf. Het is niet de eerste keer dat het model in deze schaal verschijnt. In augustus 2017 kondigde het bedrijf Eaglemoss het verschijnen van de Lotus Esprit S1 aan. Het bedrijf had al eerder filmauto’s op de markt gebracht, waaronder de Aston Martin DB5 uit Goldfinger. Vanaf september 2017 begon de verkoop van het eerste deel, maar verder dan dat kwam het niet. Bij het Eaglemoss-model kon men kiezen voor de gewone Lotus of de onderzeebootversie.

In early December 2023, the model was officially announced in the British company’s newsletter and pre-sales began at the end of the month. And as mentioned, the Lotus Esprit is the second vehicle in the company’s 007 series. It is not the first time the model has appeared in this scale. In August 2017, the company Eaglemoss announced the appearance of the Lotus Esprit S1. The company had previously marketed movie cars including the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger. From September 2017, sales of the first part started, but it did not get beyond that one. With the Eaglemoss model, one could choose to build the regular Lotus or the submarine version.

De belofte van Agora Models

Agora Models heeft afgelopen jaren laten zien dat ze staan voor kwalitatief hoogwaardige schaalmodellen waar veel tijd gestoken is in de details en het gebruik van eerste klas materialen. En dat hebben we met eigen ogen al mogen bewonderen bij de Aston Martin DB5. En bij de aankomende Lotus van James Bond is dat niet anders. “Wet Nellie” wordt geleverd in de fraaie kleur Monaco White en komt met alle gadgets uit de film. Zo is er aan de achterzijde een inktsproeistraal, zijn er vier grond-luchtraketten te zien, diverse soorten torpedo’s aan de voorzijde en aan de onderkant een mijn dispenser. Kenmerkend zijn de roervinnen aan de zijkant en de staartvinnen met vier schroeven.

Niet alleen aan het uiterlijk is het nodige nauwkeurig in beeld gebracht, ook in het voertuig kan je genieten van een waarheidsgetrouw interieur en de motor achterin. Hieronder het interieur van het origineel, het model van Eaglemoss en het model van Agora Models.

Agora Models’ promise

In recent years, Agora Models has shown that they stand for high-quality scale models where a lot of time is put into the details and the use of first-class materials. And we have already witnessed this with our own eyes with the Aston Martin DB5. And it is no different with James Bond’s upcoming Lotus. “Wet Nellie” comes in the beautiful Monaco White colour and comes with all the gadgets from the film. These include an ink spray jet at the rear, four ground-to-air missiles, various types of torpedoes at the front and a mine dispenser at the bottom. Features include the rudder fins on the side and the tail fins with four screws.

Not only the exterior has been accurately portrayed, even inside the vehicle you can enjoy a faithful interior and the engine in the back. Below is the interior of the original, Eaglemoss’ model and Agora Models’ model.

Verschillen

Met de foto’s van Agora Models, Eaglemoss en de ‘echte’ Lotus uit de film kunnen we wel zeggen dat Agora Models goed hun huiswerk heeft gedaan. Het was overigens niet makkelijk liet CEO James Franks weten: er is gebruik gemaakt van diverse modellen van de Lotus, welke niet altijd met elkaar overeenkwamen. Een klein voorbeeld is de verlichtingsunit in de voorbumper. Tijdens de opnames op de weg is duidelijk te zien dat de verlichting aan de binnenzijde oranje is en aan de buitenzijde wit. Terwijl op foto’s van het model dat gebruikt werd om vanaf de pier het water in te rijden de gehele unit wit was. Bij een van de onderwatermodellen is weer te zien dat de gehele unit oranje is. En zo zijn er nog tal van verschillen te vinden.

Differences

With the photos by Agora Models, Eaglemoss and the ‘real’ Lotus from the film, we can say that Agora Models did their homework well. By the way, it was not easy let CEO James Franks know: various models of the Lotus were used, which did not always match. A small example is the lighting unit in the front bumper. During road shots, it is clearly visible that the lighting is orange on the inside and white on the outside. While in photos of the model used to drive into the water from the pier, the entire unit was white. One of the underwater models again shows that the entire unit is orange. And so there are numerous differences to be found.

Aanpassingen

Toen het model verscheen op de website van Agora Models waren er nog een aantal onderdelen niet zoals deze in de film te zien waren. We spraken hierover met Agora Models CEO James Franks. Hij vertelde dat het model op de website een prototype was. Agora Models heeft in het Peterson Museum tijdens Bond In Motion 3d scans gemaakt van een aantal James Bond-voertuigen. Dat is voor hun de basis geweest voor het schaalmodel en soms zijn er verschillen in de modellen die tijdens het filmen zijn gebruikt. In overleg met ons zijn er een aantal aanpassingen doorgevoerd. Belangrijkste zijn de nummerplaten aan de voor- en achterzijde. Deze kwamen totaal niet overeen met het model uit de film. Ook is het gele Lotus badge op de motorkap verdwenen en daarvoor in de plaats het Lotus Esprit logo verschenen. Andere aanpassingen die zijn doorgevoerd zijn de kleuren van de verlichting.

Updates

When the model appeared on Agora Models’ website, there were still some parts not as seen in the film. We spoke to Agora Models CEO James Franks about this. He told us that the model on the website was a prototype. Agora Models made 3d scans of a number of James Bond vehicles at the Peterson Museum during Bond In Motion. This was the basis for their scale model and sometimes there are differences in the models used during filming. In consultation with us, a number of adjustments were made. Most important are the number plates on the front and rear. These did not match the model from the film at all. Also, the yellow Lotus badge on the bonnet disappeared and the Lotus Esprit logo appeared in its place. Other changes that have been made are the colours of the lights.

Like the Aston Martin DB5 and other models from Agora Models, the Lotus Esprit can be ordered as a subscription. Besides the standard subscription, there is another 24-month subscription and, for the real enthusiasts, a Collector’s Edition. The latter comes with an acrylic display box with back and base, a metal specification plate and illuminated film logo.
