Het nieuws van het overlijden werd bekend gemaakt door de Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC). Echevarría begon zijn acteercarrière in 1978 als lid van de Constitution of Art and Society, voordat hij toetrad tot de theatergroep Circo, Maroma y Teatro. Hij maakte zijn filmdebuut in Intimidad van Dana Rotberg in 1989 en speelde daarna in verschillende Mexicaanse films. Hij blijft het meest bekend om zijn iconische rol van El Chivo in de film Amores Perros.
In de Bondwereld had Echevarría een kleine rol in Die Another Day. Raoul is een slapende agent die in Havana, Cuba woont. Wanneer James Bond in Raoul’s sigarenfabriek aankomt, geeft Raoul Bond informatie over Zao, die naar de kliniek van Dr. Alvarez op het eiland Los Organos is gereisd. Raoul leent Bond ook een Ford Fairlane uit 1957 om daarheen te reizen, samen met wat benodigdheden voor Bond’s dekmantel als ornitholoog. Later ontdekt Raoul dat een diamant uit Zao’s kogelhanger toebehoort aan Gustav Graves.

News of the death was announced by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC). Echevarría began his acting career in 1978 as a member of the Constitution of Art and Society, before joining the theatre group Circo, Maroma y Teatro. He made his film debut in Dana Rotberg’s Intimidad in 1989 and subsequently starred in several Mexican films. He remains best known for his iconic role of El Chivo in debut film Amores Perros.
In the Bond world, Echevarría had a small role in Die Another Day. Raoul is a sleeper agent living in Havana, Cuba. When James Bond arrives at Raoul’s cigar factory, Raoul gives Bond information about Zao, who has travelled to Dr Alvarez’s clinic on the island of Los Organos. Raoul also lends Bond a 1957 Ford Fairlane to travel there, along with some supplies for Bond’s cover as an ornithologist. Later, Raoul discovers that a diamond from Zao’s bullet pendant belongs to Gustav Graves.
