De een na laatste munt uit de serie Six Dacades of 007 van The Royal Mint is uitgebracht. Deze keer is de munt gewijd aan de James Bondfilms van de jaren 2010.
Toen de jaren 2000 overgingen in 2010, was de rol van James Bond na twee succesvolle optredens als 007 in de jaren 2000 met Casino Royale en Quantum Of Solace stevig in handen van Daniel Craig. De lat lag al extreem hoog in het vorige decennium en EON Productions stond onder druk om dat momentum vast te houden met de terugkeer van Bond in 2012. Gelukkig voor de fans van de franchise zou de terugkeer van Bond niet alleen het succes van de vorige Craig-uitgaven evenaren, maar ook alle 007 box office records verbrijzelen.
Bij een ongelofelijk decennium aan films hoorde natuurlijk een al even voortreffelijk muntontwerp. Om dit te bereiken, keken ontwerpers Matt Dent en Christian Davies naar Spectre uit 2015 voor inspiratie en kozen uiteindelijk voor het gedenkwaardige sneeuwvliegtuig waarin Bond Mr Hinx de Oostenrijkse hellingen afjaagt in de hoop Madeleine Swann te redden. De scène zelf was een van de meest complexe van de hele film en vergde vijf maanden van nauwgezette planning en stuntcoördinatie voordat de scène kon worden gefilmd.
Het sneeuwvliegtuig wordt precies zo gepresenteerd als in de film en wordt ondersteund door de titels van alle Bondfilms uit het decennium erachter. Het centrale ontwerp wordt opnieuw omringd door de altijd aanwezige geweerloop die in de opening van elke Bond-film wordt gebruikt. Het ontwerp wordt gecompleteerd door het 007-logo, zoals het in de jaren 2010 verscheen.
The second-to-last coin from The Royal Mint’s Six Dacades of 007 series has been released. This time the coin is dedicated to the James Bond films of the 2010s.
As the 2000s turned into 2010, the role of James Bond was firmly in the hands of Daniel Craig after two successful performances as 007 in the 2000s with Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace. The standard was already extremely high in the previous decade and EON Productions was under pressure to maintain that momentum with Bond’s return in 2012. Fortunately for fans of the franchise, Bond’s return would not only match the success of the previous Craig releases, but also shatter all 007 box office records.
With an incredible decade of films naturally came an equally outstanding coin design. To achieve this, designers Matt Dent and Christian Davies looked to 2015’s Spectre for inspiration and eventually chose the memorable snow plane in which Bond chases Mr Hinx down the Austrian slopes in the hope of rescuing Madeleine Swann. The scene itself was one of the most complex of the entire film, requiring five months of meticulous planning and stunt coordination before the scene could be filmed.
The snow plane is presented exactly as in the film and is supported by the titles of all Bond films from the decade behind it. The central design is once again surrounded by the ever-present gun barrel used in the opening of every Bond film. The design is completed by the 007 logo, as it appeared in the 2010s.
