Isaac Rouse is James Bond

Young James Bond can be heard from today in a new, full-length audio adaptation of SilverFin. Big Finish Productions and Ian Fleming Publications bring Charlie Higson’s first Young Bond novel to life in a production comprising sixteen episodes.

Young Bond: SilverFin brings James Bond’s teenage years to the audio format. Charlie Higson’s original novel was published in 2005 and marked the beginning of the popular Young Bond book series. More than twenty years later, the story receives a new interpretation, featuring an extensive cast, cinematic sound design and specially composed music.

The production has been created by Big Finish Productions in collaboration with Ian Fleming Publications. The story is divided into two volumes, comprising sixteen episodes of approximately thirty minutes each. Together, the two volumes offer around eight hours of listening.

From Eton College to the Scottish Highlands

In SilverFin, we meet thirteen-year-old James Bond as he begins his education at the prestigious Eton College. However, his new school life is far from straightforward. Bond encounters rivalry, makes new friends and becomes embroiled in a mystery that eventually takes him to the Scottish Highlands. There, he investigates the disappearance of a boy and becomes entangled in the dark secrets surrounding Loch Silverfin and Castle Hellebore. The schemes of the ruthless Lord Hellebore and a series of dangerous scientific experiments pose a threat far greater than young Bond initially realises.

The story explores the early development of the qualities that will later define the famous secret agent. Young James must rely on his intelligence, courage and resourcefulness to survive the unfolding events.

Isaac Rouse stars as James Bond

The leading role goes to Isaac Rouse, who voices the young James Bond. Charlotte McBurney plays Wilder Lawless, while Harry Marcus voices Red Kelly and Christopher Nathan takes on the role of George Hellebore. Several familiar names also feature in the cast. Tim McInnerny plays Bond’s uncle Max, while Miranda Raison voices his aunt Charmian. William Hope takes on the role of the sinister Lord Randolph Hellebore, while Paterson Joseph plays the German scientist Dr Perseus Friend.

A particularly notable addition is Charlie Higson himself. The author of the original novel appears as Michael Merriot, Bond’s classics teacher at Eton. Higson therefore makes a special return to the story that launched the Young Bond series.

The adaptation is written and directed by Barnaby Edwards, with an original score composed by Joe Kraemer, whose music gives the world of young James Bond its own distinctive sound.
