Na een uitgebreide castingprocedure hebben Big Finish Productions en Ian Fleming Publications de hoofdrolspelers bekendgemaakt voor Young Bond: SilverFin, de eerste volledige audiodramabewerking van Charlie Higsons populaire Young Bond-romans.
De rol van de jonge James Bond gaat naar de Britse acteur Isaac Rouse, terwijl Charlotte McBurney gestalte geeft aan Wilder Lawless, Bonds eigenzinnige bondgenoot. De productie, die in oktober 2026 verschijnt, bestaat uit zestien afleveringen van elk een half uur en wordt uitgebracht in twee boxsets. Daarmee krijgt Higsons debuutroman SilverFin voor het eerst een grootschalige audioadaptatie met een complete cast.
Isaac Rouse is geen onbekende voor televisiekijkers. Hij was eerder te zien in series als The Crown, Get Even en Genius. Daarnaast speelde hij Charlie Bucket in Sam Mendes’ theaterproductie van Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Voor Charlotte McBurney betekent SilverFin een nieuwe prominente rol. De actrice verwierf bekendheid dankzij haar stemwerk in de videogamereeks A Plague Tale, waarvoor zij een BAFTA-nominatie ontving, en in Final Fantasy XVI. De zoektocht naar de nieuwe Young Bond was allesbehalve eenvoudig. Meer dan vijfhonderd kandidaten stuurden auditietapes in, waarna twaalf jonge acteurs werden uitgenodigd voor een studiocasting. Volgens schrijver en regisseur Barnaby Edwards bleek Isaac Rouse uiteindelijk de perfecte keuze.
“Zijn interpretatie van Bond sloot naadloos aan bij de visie van Ian Fleming en Charlie Higson”, aldus Edwards. “Hij belichaamt de Bond uit de boeken: stoer maar kwetsbaar, intelligent, geestig en met een sterk gevoel voor rechtvaardigheid.” Ook producent Robert Valentine was al snel overtuigd. Hij verklaarde dat hij binnen een minuut wist dat de makers hun jonge 007 hadden gevonden. Volgens Valentine bezit Rouse alle eigenschappen die erop wijzen dat deze tienerversie uiteindelijk zal uitgroeien tot de literaire James Bond die lezers kennen.
Naast Bond speelt Wilder Lawless een belangrijke rol in SilverFin. Het zestienjarige personage, dat in de roman een onverschrokken bondgenoot van Bond wordt, wordt vertolkt door Charlotte McBurney. Edwards omschrijft haar als onafhankelijk, temperamentvol en grappig, terwijl Valentine haar karakter een “natuurkracht” noemt.
Ook Amanda Douglas, managing director van Ian Fleming Publications, sprak haar enthousiasme uit over de nieuwe cast. Volgens haar brachten beide acteurs precies de juiste combinatie van authenticiteit, charisma en energie mee om de geliefde personages tot leven te brengen. Zij benadrukte bovendien dat SilverFin de eerste volledige Young Bond-audioproductie van Ian Fleming Publications is.
SilverFin, oorspronkelijk gepubliceerd in 2005, was de eerste roman in Charlie Higsons succesvolle Young Bond-serie. Het verhaal volgt de dertienjarige James Bond tijdens zijn eerste jaar op Eton College. Wanneer een mysterieuze verdwijning hem naar Schotland leidt, raakt hij verwikkeld in een gevaarlijk complot rond een geheim experiment. Het boek vormde destijds het begin van een nieuwe generatie Bond-avonturen en groeide uit tot een internationaal succes.
Big Finish Productions, vooral bekend van zijn uitgebreide reeks Doctor Who-audiodrama’s, brengt de twee delen van SilverFin in oktober 2026 exclusief uit via zijn eigen website. Following an extensive casting process, Big Finish Productions and Ian Fleming Publications have announced the lead actors for Young Bond: SilverFin, the first full-cast audio drama adaptation of Charlie Higson’s popular Young Bondnovels.
British actor Isaac Rouse has been cast as the young James Bond, while Charlotte McBurney will portray Wilder Lawless, Bond’s spirited ally. Due for release in October 2026, the production comprises sixteen half-hour episodes and will be released across two box sets. It marks the first time Higson’s debut novel SilverFin has received a large-scale audio adaptation featuring a full cast.
Isaac Rouse will be familiar to television audiences from appearances in series such as The Crown, Get Even and Genius. He also played Charlie Bucket in Sam Mendes’ stage production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. For Charlotte McBurney, SilverFin represents another high-profile role. “His interpretation of Bond aligned perfectly with Ian Fleming’s and Charlie Higson’s vision,” Edwards said. “He embodies the Bond of the books: tough yet vulnerable, intelligent, witty and possessed of a strong sense of justice.” Producer Robert Valentine was equally convinced. He revealed that within a minute of Rouse’s audition, he knew they had found their Young 007. According to Valentine, Rouse possesses all the qualities that suggest this teenage incarnation will one day become the literary James Bond readers know and love.
Alongside Bond, Wilder Lawless plays a key role in SilverFin. The sixteen-year-old character, who becomes one of Bond’s fearless allies in the novel, is portrayed by Charlotte McBurney. Edwards describes her as independent, spirited and funny, while Valentine refers to the character as “a force of nature”.

In her view, both actors bring precisely the right combination of authenticity, charisma and energy to bring these beloved characters to life. She further noted that SilverFin marks Ian Fleming Publications’ first full-cast Young Bond audio production.
Originally published in 2005, SilverFin was the first novel in Charlie Higson’s successful Young Bond series. The story follows thirteen-year-old James Bond during his first year at Eton College. When a mysterious disappearance leads him to Scotland, he becomes embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy centred around a secret experiment. The book launched a new generation of Bond adventures and went on to become an international success.
Best known for its extensive range of Doctor Who audio dramas, Big Finish Productions will release the two volumes of SilverFin exclusively through its website in October 2026.
