Producent Albert R. Broccoli werd afgelopen week geëerd in de Italiaanse plaats Carolei in Calabrië, Italië. Dit gebeurde op zijn 27e sterfdag om zijn Italiaanse achtergrond te eren.
De ouders van Broccoli kwamen uit deze plaats en verhuisden naar New York. Daar werd de producent op 5 april 1909 geboren. Begin jaren 50 verhuisde Broccoli naar Londen om Britse films te maken. In die tijd werd daar vanuit de overheid veel subsidie voor gegeven. In 1961 werd hij door producent Harry Saltzman benaderd om samen de James Bond-verhalen te verfilmen. Saltzman had de rechten van Fleming gekocht en zich nog een mede investeerder. Later richtte het tweetal Danjaq LLC en EON Productions op.
Producer Albert R. Broccoli was honoured last week in the Italian town of Carolei in Calabria, Italy. This was done on his 27th death anniversary to honour his Italian background.
Broccoli’s parents came from this place and moved to New York. There, the producer was born on 5 April 1909. In the early 1950s, Broccoli moved to London to make British films. At that time, a lot of subsidies were given for this from the government. In 1961, he was approached by producer Harry Saltzman to film the James Bond stories together. Saltzman had bought the rights from Fleming and found himself another co-investor. The pair later founded Danjaq LLC and EON Productions.
De burgemeester van Carolei, Francesco Lannucci, verleende ereburgerschap aan Michael G. Wilson, Tony Broccoli, Tina Broccoli en Barbara Broccoli om de band van de familie met het dorp te herdenken. Tevens werd er een bronzen buste van Albert Broccoli onthuld. Deze is gebeeldhouwd door Dominco Sepe, een bekende Italiaanse beeldhouwer, die in de komende weken in het dorp Carolei zal worden geplaatst. Italiaanse acteurs Giancarlo Giannini (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace) en Caterina Murino (Casino Royale) woonden de viering bij.
Mayor of Carolei, Francesco Lannucci, conferred honorary citizenship on Michael G. Wilson, Tony Broccoli, Tina Broccoli and Barbara Broccoli to commemorate the family’s connection with the village. A bronze bust of Albert Broccoli was also unveiled. This was sculpted by Dominco Sepe, a well-known Italian sculptor, and will be placed in the village of Carolei in the coming weeks. Italian actors Giancarlo Giannini (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace) and Caterina Murino (Casino Royale) attended the celebration.

De beurs is opgezet vanuit The Broccoli Foundation: opgericht door Dana en Albert Broccoli om kunst, geneeskunde en onderwijs te ondersteunen.
Michael G Wilson: “We are delighted to continue his legacy by launching the Cubby Broccoli Scholarship together with the Universita Della Calabria in Cosenza and the National School of Film and Television (NFTS) in the UK. This joint commitment is to nurture and empower emerging filmmakers.“
This scholarship offers Universita Della Calabria students a chance to change their lives. Students attend NFTS for the next 10 years to ignite their passion for filmmaking and support their journey towards a successful career in the film industry. The scholarship was set up from The Broccoli Foundation: founded by Dana and Albert Broccoli to support arts, medicine and education.
