Goed nieuws voor liefhebbers van James Bond, Pinewood Studios en de mensen achter de schermen van de 007-films: Bondstars keert in 2027 terug met nieuwe evenementen.
Bondstars werd in de afgelopen twee decennia een begrip onder verzamelaars en liefhebbers van James Bond. De evenementen boden fans iets wat maar weinig andere bijeenkomsten konden bieden: de mogelijkheid om op de beroemde Pinewood Studios rond te lopen, acteurs en crewleden persoonlijk te ontmoeten en samen met andere liefhebbers de geschiedenis van 007 te vieren.
Het begon in 2004
Het eerste Bondstars-evenement vond plaats op 21 november 2004, met An Afternoon With Richard Kiel. Een jaar later volgde James Bond – A Celebration met George Lazenby. Daarmee werd de basis gelegd voor een lange reeks bijeenkomsten die zich niet uitsluitend richtten op de acteurs, maar juist ook op de vele mensen die achter de schermen verantwoordelijk waren voor de Bond-films.
De formule bleek succesvol: bijzondere gasten, interviews, signeersessies, memorabilia, filmvertoningen en rondleidingen over de studio. Bondstars wist daarmee een persoonlijke en vaak unieke blik achter de schermen van 007 te bieden.
Bond Girls Are Forever
Een van de meest memorabele evenementen was Bond Girls Are Forever, dat op 2 juli 2006 in Pinewood Studios werd gehouden. Het evenement stond volledig in het teken van de vrouwen uit de Bond-films. Onder de aanwezigen bevonden zich onder anderen Eunice Gayson, Zena Marshall, Shirley Eaton, Tania Mallet, Britt Ekland, Maud Adams en Pamela Salem. Naast interviews en signeersessies kregen bezoekers een rondleiding over het Pinewood-terrein, waarbij onder meer locaties en sets werden bezocht die een rol hadden gespeeld in de Bond-producties.
Achter de schermen van Bond
In 2007 verschoof de aandacht naar de mensen achter de camera met Behind the Scenes of Bond. Bondstars bracht enkele legendarische production designers bij elkaar: Peter Murton, Peter Lamont en Sir Ken Adam. Na een uitgebreide presentatie met filmfragmenten en interviews konden bezoekers bovendien kennismaken met stuntmannen Martin Grace en Terry Mountain, die een demonstratie verzorgden. Het evenement liet zien dat Bondstars niet alleen geïnteresseerd was in de bekende gezichten voor de camera, maar ook in de vakmensen die het uiterlijk en de spectaculaire acties van de films bepaalden.
Goldfinger Reunion
Een jaar later stond Goldfinger centraal tijdens Goldfinger – The Reunion. Voor deze bijeenkomst werd een bijzondere connectie gelegd tussen de Bondwereld en een van de meest herkenbare auto’s uit de filmgeschiedenis. Merlijn Kuiper, oprichter en hoofdredacteur van Bondesque Magazine, zorgde ervoor dat voor de Goldfinger Reunion een van de promotionele Aston Martin DB5’s voor één dag naar Pinewood Studios werd gebracht. Daarmee kregen de bezoekers de gelegenheid om een van de beroemdste Bond-auto’s van dichtbij te bekijken op de plek waar een groot deel van de filmgeschiedenis van 007 tot stand kwam.
De aanwezigheid van de DB5 vormde een passend onderdeel van een evenement dat volledig in het teken stond van de derde Bondfilm. De auto groeide sinds Goldfinger uit tot een van de meest herkenbare symbolen van James Bond en werd uiteindelijk misschien wel het beroemdste filmvoertuig aller tijden.
The Spy Who Loved Me
Op 19 oktober 2008 volgde The Spy Who Loved Me Reunion + An Evening With Sir Roger Moore. Meer dan honderd Bondfans kwamen naar Pinewood om de Roger Moore-klassieker te vieren. Onder de gasten bevonden zich onder anderen Richard Kiel, Valerie Leon en Albert Moses, terwijl later op de dag nog veel meer cast- en crewleden arriveerden. Buiten stonden onder andere de Lotus Esprit, een replica van de Wetbike en Naomi’s helikopter opgesteld.
Ook een rondleiding door Pinewood maakte deel uit van het programma, met locaties die in verschillende Bond-films waren gebruikt. De dag werd afgesloten met een bijzondere avond met Sir Roger Moore.
Een traditie die bleef groeien
De daaropvolgende jaren bleef Bondstars nieuwe evenementen organiseren. Op de website staat een indrukwekkende reeks bijeenkomsten vermeld, waaronder From Pinewood With Love in 2009, Bond at 50 in 2012, Octopussy at 30 in 2013, The Living Daylights in 2014, For Our Eyes Only in 2015, Designs on Bond in 2016, Classic Bond in 2017 en Live and Let Die in 2018. Later volgden onder meer Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Making Movie Magic en 60 Years of Bond. Vooral Octopussy at 30 illustreert hoe uitgebreid de evenementen waren. Naast cast- en crewleden konden bezoekers genieten van achter-de-schermenmateriaal, rondleidingen door de Pinewood-tuinen en de backlot en een Bondquiz.
Casino Royale 70
Het meest recente grote evenement vond plaats op 29 oktober 2023. Casino Royale 70 stond in het teken van zeventig jaar James Bond in druk en richtte zich daarmee bewust op de literaire kant van 007. Onder de gasten waren auteurs Raymond Benson, Charlie Higson, Kim Sherwood en Steve Cole, evenals Fleming-biografen Andrew Lycett en Nicholas Shakespeare. Het programma omvatte onder meer lezingen, interviews, een vertoning van de Amerikaanse Casino Royale uit 1954 en een presentatie over illustrator Richard Chopping.
Aan het einde van die dag werd aangekondigd dat dit het laatste Bondstars-evenement in de studio’s zou zijn. Daarmee leek een tijdperk te worden afgesloten.
Bondstars is terug
De aangekondigde terugkeer in 2027 maakt die geschiedenis extra bijzonder. Na bijna twintig jaar aan evenementen lijkt Bondstars klaar voor een nieuw hoofdstuk. De precieze invulling van de nieuwe bijeenkomsten moet nog worden afgewacht, maar de verwachtingen zullen ongetwijfeld hooggespannen zijn.
Bondstars heeft in het verleden bewezen dat het meer kan bieden dan een conventie. Het bracht fans daadwerkelijk in contact met de mensen die James Bond hebben gemaakt. Van acteurs en stuntmensen tot production designers, fotografen, schrijvers en andere crewleden: de evenementen vormden samen een levende geschiedenis van 007.
Na de aankondiging in 2023 dat Casino Royale 70 het laatste evenement zou zijn, is de boodschap voor 2027 dan ook bijzonder welkom: Bondstars will return.

Over the past two decades, Bondstars has become a household name among James Bond collectors and enthusiasts. The events offered fans something that few other gatherings could: the opportunity to walk around the famous Pinewood Studios, meet actors and crew members in person, and celebrate the history of 007 alongside fellow enthusiasts.
It began in 2004
The first Bondstars event took place on 21 November 2004, with An Afternoon With Richard Kiel. A year later, James Bond – A Celebration followed, featuring George Lazenby. This laid the foundations for a long series of events that focused not only on the actors, but also on the many people working behind the scenes who were responsible for bringing the Bond films to life.
The formula proved successful: special guests, interviews, autograph sessions, memorabilia, film screenings and guided tours of the studio. In doing so, Bondstars offered a personal and often unique insight into the world behind 007.
Bond Girls Are Forever
One of the most memorable events was Bond Girls Are Forever, held at Pinewood Studios on 2 July 2006. The event was entirely dedicated to the women of the Bond films. Among those attending were Eunice Gayson, Zena Marshall, Shirley Eaton, Tania Mallet, Britt Ekland, Maud Adams and Pamela Salem. Alongside interviews and autograph sessions, visitors were given a tour of the Pinewood grounds, including locations and sets that had featured in Bond productions.
Behind the Scenes of Bond
In 2007, the focus shifted to the people behind the camera with Behind the Scenes of Bond. Bondstars brought together several legendary production designers: Peter Murton, Peter Lamont and Sir Ken Adam. Following an extensive presentation featuring film clips and interviews, visitors also had the opportunity to meet stuntmen Martin Grace and Terry Mountain, who gave a demonstration. The event showed that Bondstars was interested not only in the familiar faces in front of the camera, but also in the professionals who shaped the look and spectacular action of the films.
Goldfinger Reunion
A year later, Goldfinger took centre stage with Goldfinger – The Reunion. For this gathering, a special connection was made between the world of Bond and one of the most recognisable cars in film history. Merlijn Kuiper, founder and editor-in-chief of Bondesque Magazine, arranged for one of the promotional Aston Martin DB5s to be brought to Pinewood Studios for the day. This gave visitors the opportunity to see one of the most famous Bond cars up close, at the very place where much of 007’s film history was created.
The presence of the DB5 was a fitting addition to an event dedicated entirely to the third Bond film. Since Goldfinger, the car has become one of the most recognisable symbols of James Bond and ultimately perhaps the most famous film vehicle of all time.
The Spy Who Loved Me
On 19 October 2008, The Spy Who Loved Me Reunion + An Evening With Sir Roger Moore followed. More than 100 Bond fans came to Pinewood to celebrate the Roger Moore classic. Among the guests were Richard Kiel, Valerie Leon and Albert Moses, while many more cast and crew members arrived later in the day. Outside, visitors could see the Lotus Esprit, a replica Wetbike and Naomi’s helicopter.
A tour of Pinewood was also part of the programme, including locations that had been used in various Bond films. The day concluded with a special evening with Sir Roger Moore.
A tradition that continued to grow
In the years that followed, Bondstars continued to organise new events. Its website lists an impressive series of gatherings, including From Pinewood With Love in 2009, Bond at 50 in 2012, Octopussy at 30 in 2013, The Living Daylights in 2014, For Our Eyes Only in 2015, Designs on Bond in 2016, Classic Bond in 2017 and Live and Let Die in 2018. Later events included Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Making Movie Magic and 60 Years of Bond. Octopussy at 30 in particular illustrates just how extensive these events could be. Alongside cast and crew members, visitors could enjoy behind-the-scenes material, tours of the Pinewood gardens and backlot, and a Bond quiz.
Casino Royale 70
The most recent major event took place on 29 October 2023. Casino Royale 70 celebrated 70 years of James Bond in print and deliberately focused on the literary side of 007. Guests included authors Raymond Benson, Charlie Higson, Kim Sherwood and Steve Cole, as well as Fleming biographers Andrew Lycett and Nicholas Shakespeare. The programme included talks, interviews, a screening of the 1954 American Casino Royale and a presentation about illustrator Richard Chopping.
At the end of the day, it was announced that this would be the final Bondstars event at the studios. It seemed that an era had come to an end.
Bondstars is back
The announced return in 2027 makes that history all the more remarkable. After almost two decades of events, Bondstars appears ready to begin a new chapter. The precise format of the new gatherings remains to be seen, but expectations will undoubtedly be high.
Bondstars has proved in the past that it can offer much more than a convention. It brought fans into direct contact with the people who helped create James Bond. From actors and stunt performers to production designers, photographers, writers and other crew members, the events collectively formed a living history of 007.
Following the announcement in 2023 that Casino Royale 70 would be the final event, the message for 2027 is therefore particularly welcome: Bondstars will return.
