MINI GT voegt opnieuw twee iconische James Bond-auto’s toe aan zijn groeiende 1:64-collectie. Met de Aston Martin DBS uit Quantum of Solace en de witte Lotus Esprit S1 uit The Spy Who Loved Me brengt de modelautofabrikant twee zeer verschillende, maar inmiddels onlosmakelijk met 007 verbonden auto’s in miniatuur tot leven.
Aston Martin DBS
De Aston Martin DBS, met modelnummer MGT00924, is een bijzonder exemplaar, want MINI GT heeft gekozen voor de zwaar gehavende auto uit de spectaculaire openingsscène van Quantum of Solace uit 2008. James Bond, gespeeld door Daniel Craig, probeert in de buurt van het Italiaanse Carrara een geheimzinnige lading naar een veilige bestemming te brengen. De achtervolging over smalle en bochtige wegen vormt een van de meest intense autosequenties uit de Craig-films. De DBS wordt daarbij letterlijk tot op de laatste carrosseriedelen toe op de proef gesteld.
Het opvallendste detail is uiteraard de ontbrekende bestuurdersdeur. Ook de voorruit is zwaar beschadigd en de carrosserie vertoont talrijke sporen van de meedogenloze achtervolging. Juist deze beschadigde toestand is in de loop der jaren uitgegroeid tot een van de herkenbaarste beelden van de Bond-auto uit Quantum of Solace. De DBS zelf was op dat moment een van de belangrijkste modellen van Aston Martin. De auto werd in 2007 geïntroduceerd als een krachtigere en sportievere afgeleide van de DB9 en vormde een logische opvolger van de Aston Martin Vanquish als Bond-auto. De DBS verscheen niet alleen in Quantum of Solace, maar speelde ook een prominente rol in Casino Royale uit 2006.
MINI GT heeft het 1:64-model voorzien van de karakteristieke schade, waaronder de ontbrekende deur, de gebroken voorruit en de beschadigde carrosserie. Daarmee is het geen doorsnee DBS, maar een directe verwijzing naar een van de meest memorabele autoscènes uit de moderne Bond-reeks. Voor verzamelaars zijn bovendien verschillende verpakkingsvarianten beschikbaar, met film-poster artwork in onder meer het Engels, Duits, Koreaans, Spaans en Traditioneel Chinees, naast een Engelse China Edition.
Lotus Esprit S1
Met de Lotus Esprit S1, voorzien van modelnummer MGT00925, keert MINI GT vervolgens terug naar een compleet andere periode in de Bondgeschiedenis. De witte Lotus uit The Spy Who Loved Me uit 1977 behoort zonder twijfel tot de beroemdste filmauto’s aller tijden. Roger Moore rijdt de opvallend hoekige Esprit tijdens zijn missie in Sardinië, waar Bond samen met KGB-agente Anya Amasova, gespeeld door Barbara Bach, onderzoek doet naar scheepsmagnaat Karl Stromberg. Wanneer Strombergs handlangers de twee achtervolgen over de kustwegen, laat de Lotus zien waarom Q Branch hem aan 007 heeft toevertrouwd.
De S1, ontworpen door Giorgetto Giugiaro, was met zijn karakteristieke wigvorm een perfecte Bond-auto voor de jaren zeventig. In handen van Q Branch werd hij echter aanzienlijk interessanter. Achter de achterbumper waren onder meer cementspuiters verborgen waarmee achtervolgers konden worden verblind. Het absolute hoogtepunt komt wanneer Bond de Lotus van een pier de zee in rijdt. De auto verandert vervolgens in een volledig functionerende onderzeeër, compleet met vinnen, propellers, periscoop, torpedo’s, mijnen en andere wapens. De onderwaterversie kreeg tijdens de productie de bijnaam ‘Wet Nellie’. Voor de verschillende scènes werden meerdere Esprits en carrosseries gebruikt.
MINI GT kiest voor de MGT00925 echter voor de klassieke weguitvoering. Het 1:64-model benadrukt de witte carrosserie, de scherpe lijnen en het karakteristieke jarenzeventigdesign van de S1. Daarmee vormt het model een mooie aanvulling op de vele eerdere miniatuurversies van Bond-auto’s. De duikbootversie van de Lotus is al eerder aangekondigd en draagt modelnummer MGT00920 en is ook verkrijgbaar in de voorverkoop.
Ook bij de Lotus zijn verschillende verpakkingsvarianten aangekondigd, waaronder uitvoeringen met Engels, Hongaars, Italiaans en Japans artwork, plus een English China Edition.

MINI GT adds two more iconic James Bond cars to its growing 1:64 collection. With the Aston Martin DBS from Quantum of Solace and the white Lotus Esprit S1 from The Spy Who Loved Me, the model car manufacturer brings two very different cars, both now inextricably linked to 007, to life in miniature.
Aston Martin DBS
The Aston Martin DBS, model number MGT00924, is a particularly distinctive release, as MINI GT has chosen to recreate the heavily damaged car from the spectacular opening sequence of Quantum of Solace (2008). James Bond, played by Daniel Craig, is attempting to transport a mysterious consignment to safety near Carrara in Italy. The chase through the narrow, winding roads is one of the most intense car sequences in the Craig era, with the DBS pushed to its limits.
The most striking detail is, of course, the missing driver’s door. The windscreen is also badly damaged, while the bodywork bears numerous marks from the relentless pursuit. This battered appearance has, over the years, become one of the most recognisable images associated with the Bond car from Quantum of Solace.
At the time, the DBS was one of Aston Martin’s most important models. Introduced in 2007 as a more powerful and sporting derivative of the DB9, it became a natural successor to the Aston Martin Vanquish as a Bond car. The DBS appeared not only in Quantum of Solace, but also played a prominent role in Casino Royale (2006).
MINI GT has equipped the 1:64-scale model with all the characteristic damage, including the missing door, shattered windscreen and damaged bodywork. This is therefore no ordinary DBS, but a direct reference to one of the most memorable car sequences of the modern Bond series. For collectors, several packaging variants are also available, featuring film-poster artwork in English, German, Korean, Spanish and Traditional Chinese, alongside an English China Edition.
Lotus Esprit S1
With the Lotus Esprit S1, model number MGT00925, MINI GT returns to a completely different era in Bond history. The white Lotus from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) is undoubtedly one of the most famous film cars of all time. Roger Moore drives the striking, angular Esprit during his mission in Sardinia, where Bond and KGB agent Anya Amasova, played by Barbara Bach, investigate shipping magnate Karl Stromberg. When Stromberg’s henchmen pursue them along the island’s coastal roads, the Lotus demonstrates why Q Branch has entrusted 007 with the car.
Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the S1, with its distinctive wedge-shaped profile, was the perfect Bond car for the 1970s. In the hands of Q Branch, however, it became considerably more interesting. Among its hidden gadgets were cement sprayers mounted behind the rear bumper, which could be used to blind pursuing vehicles.
The ultimate moment comes when Bond drives the Lotus off a pier and into the sea. The car then transforms into a fully functioning submarine, complete with fins, propellers, a periscope, torpedoes, mines and other weapons. During production, the underwater version was nicknamed ‘Wet Nellie’. Several Esprits and body shells were used for the various scenes.
For the MGT00925, however, MINI GT has opted for the classic road-going version. The 1:64-scale model highlights the white bodywork, sharp lines and distinctive 1970s styling of the S1. It therefore makes a fine addition to the many miniature versions of Bond cars released over the years. The submarine version of the Lotus was announced previously as model number MGT00920 and is also available for pre-order.
Several packaging variants have also been announced for the Lotus, including versions featuring English, Hungarian, Italian and Japanese artwork, as well as an English China Edition.
