Op 11 december organiseert veilinghuis Christie’s Groundbreakers: Icons of our Time, een speciale nieuwe veiling die belangrijke culturele figuren en prestaties uit de 20e en 21e eeuw viert. Een eerbetoon aan modern cultureel erfgoed en daar mag James Bond natuurlijk niet in ontbreken.
Groundbreakers bestrijkt uiteenlopende domeinen, van natuurlijke historie en cinema tot muziek, literatuur, mode, sport en technologie, en toont het allerbeste van het moderne tijdperk. De volledige opbrengst van de Bond-kavels wordt geschonken aan vier goede doelen: Into Film, National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, The London Screen Academy en UK Time’s Up. Van de 32 kavels zijn er twee gewijd aan James Bond: een originele Britse quad-poster van Dr. No en een van de slechts zestig vervaardigde Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger 007 Special Editions.
De Dr. No-poster betreft de originele “First Release Poster”, ontworpen door Mitchell Hooks. Het is een Britse quad-poster, gedrukt door Stafford & Co., Ltd., en op linnen gemonteerd voor behoud. Met zijn afmetingen van circa 77 × 102,25 cm en zijn status als poster van de allereerste Bond-film is dit een uiterst zeldzaam en begeerd object. De combinatie van herkomst, historische betekenis en esthetische kwaliteit maakt het tot een echte klassieker: een authentiek stuk filmgeschiedenis dat zowel nostalgie als verzamelwaarde belichaamt.
Als poster van de première van Dr. No markeert dit kavel het begin van een van de meest invloedrijke filmreeksen ooit. Voor liefhebbers van Bond-memorabilia of vintage filmkunst is het niet slechts een decoratief object, maar een waardevolle toevoeging aan elke collectie.

De 007-styling loopt subtiel door het hele ontwerp: de gouden side strake, de fluted-sportstoelen met Prince of Wales-patroon en de zorgvuldig aangebrachte vergulde en carbon-details brengen Bonds wereld tot leven. Een verborgen “eight of hearts”-motief vormt een speelse verwijzing naar de films. De auto wordt geleverd met exclusieve, speciaal voor deze editie vervaardigde accessoires en memorabilia ter ere van zestig jaar James Bond. Ook de opbrengst van dit kavel gaat volledig naar goede doelen, waardoor dit niet alleen een uitzonderlijk verzamelobject is, maar tevens een betekenisvolle filantropische bijdrage.
On 11 December, Christie’s will present Groundbreakers: Icons of our Time, a special new auction celebrating major cultural figures and achievements of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is a tribute to modern cultural heritage — and James Bond, of course, plays an essential role within it.
Groundbreakers spans natural history, cinema, music, literature, fashion, sport and technology, showcasing the very best of the modern era. The full proceeds from the Bond lots will be donated to four charities: Into Film, the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, the London Screen Academy and UK Time’s Up. Among the 32 lots on offer, two are dedicated to James Bond: an original UK quad poster for Dr. No and one of the sixty Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger 007 Special Editions.
The Dr. No poster is the original “First Release Poster”, designed by Mitchell Hooks. This British quad poster, printed by Stafford & Co., Ltd. and mounted on linen for preservation, measures approximately 77 × 102.25 cm. As a poster from the very first release of the very first Bond film, it is an exceptionally rare and highly sought-after piece.
