Ford Mustang Convertible – Goldfinger
Aston Martin V12 Vanquish – Die Another Day
MINI GT is expanding its collection of James Bond models with two new vehicles from the film series. They are the 1964 Ford Mustang Convertible from Goldfinger and the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish from Die Another Day.
Ford Mustang Convertible – Goldfinger
Under catalogue number MGT00928, MINI GT is releasing the white Ford Mustang Convertible from Goldfinger. The American classic plays an important role in the Swiss chase sequence, in which Tilly Masterson, played by Tania Mallet, is pursued by James Bond in his Aston Martin DB5 along the mountain roads. The sequence was filmed in the Swiss Alps, including around the Furka Pass. Goldfinger was therefore one of the first major films to feature the then-new Mustang. Filming took place several months before the car was officially launched on the American market, making the Mustang’s appearance a particularly early screen outing for the model.
The car used in the film is also technically a so-called 1964½ Mustang. The Mustang was introduced in April 1964, and the earliest examples differed in several respects from the later cars sold as 1965 models. The most memorable moment comes when Bond drives alongside the Mustang in his DB5 and activates the concealed tyre slashers mounted in the Aston Martin’s wheels. The blades damage the Mustang’s tyres, causing Tilly to lose control of the car. Interestingly, historical sources indicate that a mock-up was used for the actual destruction sequence, meaning that the Mustang itself did not have to be destroyed in this manner.
MINI GT reproduces the Mustang in 1:64 scale, including its white bodywork and red interior. Several blister-packaging variants will be available: English (MGT00928-007E), French (MGT00928-007F), Japanese (MGT00928-007J) and an English China Edition (MGT00928-007ECH).
Aston Martin V12 Vanquish – Die Another Day
The second new model is MGT00926, the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish from Die Another Day. The silver Aston Martin became the principal vehicle of Pierce Brosnan’s 007 in the twentieth Bond film and took centre stage during the spectacular ice chase. Bond goes head-to-head with Zao, who is driving a Jaguar XKR. The chase across a frozen lake ranks among the most ambitious automotive sequences of the Brosnan era.
Behind the scenes, the sequence was equally remarkable. As Aston Martin did not produce an all-wheel-drive version of the Vanquish at the time, the special-effects team created several specially modified cars for the production. According to special-effects supervisor Chris Corbould, four Vanquishes and four Jaguars were modified to enable the demanding scenes to be filmed on the ice.
MINI GT will also reproduce the Vanquish in 1:64 scale. Five packaging variants have been announced for this model: English (MGT00926-007E), German (MGT00926-007G), Japanese (MGT00926-007J), Traditional Chinese (MGT00926-007TC) and an English China Edition (MGT00926-007ECH).
With these two new models, MINI GT adds two more instantly recognisable cars from different eras of Bond history to its 007 collection. Both the Mustang from Goldfinger and the Vanquish from Die Another Day are expected to arrive in February 2027. At present, 11 models have been released, with a further 15 available for pre-order.
