Twaalf foto’s, verschillende uitvoeringen
Twenty years after the premiere of Casino Royale, photographer Greg Williams is bringing a special selection of his images back into the spotlight. To mark the anniversary, twelve photographs from his archive are once again available as limited-edition fine-art prints, in a range of sizes and editions.
The photographs were taken in 2006 during the filming of Daniel Craig’s first film as James Bond. Williams was given unique behind-the-scenes access to the production. His camera captured not only the familiar actors and spectacular scenes, but also the moments in between takes. The twelve selected photographs therefore offer a unique glimpse into the film that, twenty years ago, ushered in a new era for 007.
From the Set to the Wall
The anniversary collection consists of twelve different images, featuring Daniel Craig, Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen. It also includes several iconic moments from the production, including Craig with the Aston Martin DB5 in the Bahamas, during the crane chase and wearing his stunt harness. Other photographs show Eva Green at Lake Como and Craig during filming in Prague.
What makes the collection particularly special is that it does not consist solely of familiar promotional images. During Casino Royale, Williams was particularly interested in the moments that would normally remain out of sight. He photographed Craig waiting between takes and documented how the actor physically prepared for his first appearance as 007. Williams previously recalled that producer Michael G. Wilson gave him an important piece of advice. When the photographer tried to emphasise Craig’s physical strength in his images, Wilson pointed out that Bond does not need to constantly display his strength. He compared 007 to a leopard: seemingly relaxed, but ready to strike at any moment. This idea influenced Williams’ approach to photographing Craig throughout the production.
Twelve Photographs, Different Editions
The new collection consists of twelve carefully selected photographs from 2006. The prints are produced as archival pigment prints on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta Satin 300gsm. Depending on the photograph, a range of sizes is available, from 12 × 16 inches to an impressive 50 × 72 inches. Different edition sizes are also available.
The photographs are available as either a Studio Stamped Edition or a Signed Edition. The Studio Stamped prints feature a 007 × GWP studio stamp embedded into the paper as a mark of authentication. The Signed Editions are hand-signed and numbered by Greg Williams.
Among the twelve selected images are photograph 001 of Daniel Craig, photograph 004 featuring the Aston Martin DB5, photograph 007 showing Craig creating the first gun barrel sequence, and photograph 015, capturing Bond just before delivering his famous introduction: “Bond, James Bond”. Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen are also represented in the collection.
A Record of a New Bond Era
Williams has worked as a photographer on the James Bond films for more than twenty years and has been closely involved with several productions. His collaboration with Eon Productions began earlier with Die Another Day. For Casino Royale, the trust he had built up over the years allowed him to work closely with the production and create a more personal visual record of the film.
Twenty years later, these photographs have taken on an added significance. They are not simply memories of a successful Bond film, but a visual record of the moment Daniel Craig first stepped into the role of 007. The twelve Casino Royale photographs are now available through Greg Williams’ website in a range of sizes and limited editions.
