Anthony Sinclair brengt iconische Casino Royale-outfit

Twintig jaar nadat Daniel Craig zijn debuut maakte als James Bond, brengt de Britse kleermaker Anthony Sinclair een van de meest herkenbare outfits uit Casino Royale opnieuw tot leven. In samenwerking met Academy Costumes, het bedrijf dat de originele kostuums voor de film vervaardigde, zijn zowel het Madagascar Shirt als de bijpassende Madagascar Trousers opnieuw uitgebracht.

De gelimiteerde recreaties zijn gebaseerd op de originele patronen, materialen en productietechnieken die destijds voor de film werden gebruikt. De outfit is onlosmakelijk verbonden met de spectaculaire openingsachtervolging van Casino Royale. Hoewel de scène zich afspeelt in Madagascar, vonden de opnamen plaats op de Bahama’s en in Praag. Bond zet de achtervolging in op bommenmaker Mollaka, waarbij hij zich een weg baant over een bouwplaats tijdens een van de meest indrukwekkende parkourscènes uit de filmreeks. Het was bovendien de allereerste scène die Daniel Craig ooit als James Bond filmde, waardoor de kleding een bijzondere plaats inneemt in de geschiedenis van de franchise.

Terug naar de originele patronen

Voor de nieuwe uitgave werkte Anthony Sinclair samen met Academy Costumes, de oorspronkelijke makers van het kostuum, en kostuumontwerper Lindy Hemming, die in 2006 verantwoordelijk was voor de garderobe van Casino Royale. Volgens de makers is gebruikgemaakt van de originele patronen en constructietechnieken om de outfit zo nauwkeurig mogelijk te reproduceren.

Het Madagascar Shirt is vervaardigd uit dezelfde Liberty-katoenstof als het origineel en behoudt alle kenmerkende details, waaronder de zachte spear-point kraag, de rechte zoom met zijsplitten en de korte mouwen met verstelbare knoopsluiting. Hoewel het shirt direct herkenbaar is voor Bond-liefhebbers, is het volgens Anthony Sinclair ook ontworpen als een stijlvol zomershirt dat uitstekend buiten de wereld van James Bond gedragen kan worden.

Bijpassende linnen broek

Gelijktijdig verschijnt voor het eerst ook een officiële recreatie van de Madagascar Trousers. De broek is gemaakt van Iers linnen, geweven door John England, en volgt eveneens de originele patronen uit de film. De rechte pijpen, de trekkoordsluiting, de schuine steekzakken en de opgestikte achterzakken zijn allemaal overgenomen van het schermkostuum.

Volgens Anthony Sinclair werd de broek oorspronkelijk ontworpen voor een van de meest fysiek veeleisende actiescènes uit de Bond-serie. Dankzij het lichte linnen en de comfortabele pasvorm is het kledingstuk echter ook uitstekend geschikt voor dagelijks gebruik tijdens de zomermaanden.

Gelimiteerde jubileumuitgave

Zowel het shirt als de broek worden in Engeland geproduceerd als Limited Edition ter gelegenheid van het twintigjarig jubileum van Daniel Craigs eerste optreden als 007. Beide kledingstukken zijn afzonderlijk verkrijgbaar voor £295. De eerste leveringen staan gepland voor eind augustus. Wie zowel het shirt als de broek aanschaft, kan bovendien gebruikmaken van een tijdelijke introductiekorting.

Bond-traditie

Met de introductie van de Madagascar-collectie onderstreept Anthony Sinclair opnieuw zijn bijzondere band met James Bond. Het modehuis verwierf wereldfaam door Sean Connery te kleden in al zijn officiële Bond-films, waarbij de beroemde Conduit Cut uitgroeide tot een onmiskenbaar onderdeel van de klassieke Bond-stijl. In de afgelopen jaren heeft Anthony Sinclair zijn collectie uitgebreid met recreaties van verschillende iconische Bond-kledingstukken. Met de toevoeging van de Madagascar-outfit krijgt nu ook een van Daniel Craigs meest herkenbare looks een officiële en uiterst nauwkeurige heruitgave.

Twenty years after Daniel Craig made his debut as James Bond, British tailor Anthony Sinclair has brought one of the most recognisable outfits from Casino Royale back to life. In collaboration with Academy Costumes, the company that produced the original costumes for the film, both the Madagascar Shirt and the matching Madagascar Trousers have been reissued.

The limited-edition recreations are based on the original patterns, fabrics and production techniques used for the film. The outfit is inextricably linked to the spectacular opening chase sequence in Casino Royale. Although the scene is set in Madagascar, it was filmed in the Bahamas and Prague. Bond pursues bomb-maker Mollaka across a construction site in one of the most impressive parkour sequences ever seen in the Bond franchise. It was also the very first scene Daniel Craig filmed as James Bond, giving the outfit a special place in the history of the series.

Back to the original patterns

For this new release, Anthony Sinclair worked alongside Academy Costumes, the original makers of the costume, and costume designer Lindy Hemming, who was responsible for the wardrobe of Casino Royale in 2006. According to the makers, the original patterns and construction techniques were used to recreate the outfit as faithfully as possible.

The Madagascar Shirt is made from the same Liberty cotton fabric as the original and retains all of its distinctive features, including the soft spear-point collar, straight hem with side vents and short sleeves with adjustable button cuffs. While instantly recognisable to Bond enthusiasts, Anthony Sinclair has also designed the shirt as a stylish summer garment that can easily be worn beyond the world of James Bond.

Matching linen trousers

Also being released for the first time is an official recreation of the Madagascar Trousers. The trousers are made from Irish linen woven by John England and are based on the original patterns used for the film. The straight-leg cut, drawstring waistband, slanted side pockets and patch rear pockets have all been faithfully reproduced from the screen-worn costume.

According to Anthony Sinclair, the trousers were originally designed for one of the most physically demanding action sequences in the Bond series. Thanks to the lightweight linen and comfortable fit, however, they are equally well suited to everyday wear during the summer months.

Limited anniversary edition

Both the shirt and the trousers are produced in England as a Limited Edition to mark the twentieth anniversary of Daniel Craig’s first appearance as 007. Each garment is priced at £295, with the first deliveries scheduled for late August. Customers who purchase both the shirt and the trousers can also take advantage of a limited-time introductory discount.

A long-standing Bond tradition

With the introduction of the Madagascar Collection, Anthony Sinclair once again reinforces its close association with James Bond. The tailoring house achieved worldwide recognition by dressing Sean Connery in all of his official Bond films, with its famous Conduit Cut becoming an unmistakable hallmark of the classic Bond style.
