MINI GT blijft zijn succesvolle James Bond Collection uitbreiden met twee nieuwe 1:64-modellen. Ditmaal kiest de fabrikant voor twee zeer verschillende auto’s uit de filmreeks: de Aston Martin V8 Vantage uit The Living Daylights en de Ford Mustang Convertible 1965 uit Thunderball.
Beide miniaturen zijn voorzien van de bekende filmposterverpakking die inmiddels kenmerkend is geworden voor de officiële 007-serie van MINI GT.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage in ‘Weapons On’-configuratie
De meest spectaculaire van de twee nieuwe releases is zonder twijfel de Aston Martin V8 Vantage in de zogeheten Weapons On-configuratie. In The Living Daylights wordt Timothy Dalton tijdens zijn missie in Oostenrijk uitgerust met een speciaal geprepareerde V8 Vantage, voorzien van een indrukwekkend arsenaal aan gadgets. De sportwagen beschikt onder meer over raketten achter de mistlampen, uitschuifbare ski’s, lasers en een raketaangedreven acceleratiesysteem.
De auto speelt een hoofdrol tijdens een van de spectaculairste achtervolgingen uit de Bond-serie. Wanneer Bond en Kara Milovy op de vlucht slaan voor de Sovjetautoriteiten, verandert een besneeuwd berglandschap in het decor van een adembenemende achtervolging richting de Oostenrijkse grens. Dankzij de ingenieuze gadgets weet Bond zijn achtervolgers steeds een stap voor te blijven, totdat de Aston Martin uiteindelijk wordt vernietigd.
MINI GT heeft juist deze iconische Weapons On-uitvoering als uitgangspunt genomen. Op schaal 1:64 zijn de uitgeklapte bewapening en de karakteristieke ski-uitrusting nauwkeurig nagebootst, terwijl ook de elegante lijnen van de Aston Martin behouden zijn gebleven. Daarmee onderscheidt dit model zich duidelijk van eerdere miniaturen van de V8 Vantage.
Ford Mustang Convertible uit Thunderball
De tweede nieuwe uitgave neemt verzamelaars ruim twintig jaar verder terug in de tijd. MINI GT brengt namelijk ook de Ford Mustang Convertible 1965 uit Thunderball uit. Hoewel deze Amerikaanse cabriolet minder bekend is dan de Aston Martins of Lotussen uit de Bond-serie, speelt hij een belangrijke rol in een memorabele scène op de Bahama’s.
In de film wordt de witte Mustang bestuurd door Fiona Volpe, de verleidelijke SPECTRE-agente die Bond oppikt in Nassau. Tijdens de rit probeert zij Bond af te leiden, terwijl hij langzaam begint te beseffen dat Fiona veel gevaarlijker is dan zij op het eerste gezicht lijkt. De stijlvolle open Ford Mustang vormt met zijn elegante lijnen en zonnige uitstraling een perfect contrast met de spanning die zich tussen beide personages ontwikkelt.
MINI GT heeft de cabriolet zorgvuldig op schaal gereproduceerd, met oog voor de klassieke proporties en de karakteristieke details van de originele Ford Mustang uit 1965. Daarmee vormt het model een fraaie aanvulling op de groeiende reeks voertuigen uit de vroege Bond-films.
Internationale verpakkingen
Zoals gebruikelijk verschijnen beide modellen in meerdere internationale verpakkingsvarianten. De Aston Martin V8 Vantage wordt uitgebracht met Engelstalige, Duitse, Japanse, Spaanse en Chinese blisterverpakkingen, terwijl de Ford Mustang Convertible verkrijgbaar is met Engelse, Spaanse, Japanse, Franse en Chinese filmposter-artwork. Deze verschillende verpakkingen zijn inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een geliefd verzamelonderdeel binnen de MINI GT James Bond Collection.
Sinds de start van de 007-serie heeft MINI GT een sterke reputatie opgebouwd dankzij de combinatie van hoogwaardige detaillering, officiële licenties en een betaalbare prijs. De fabrikant brengt niet alleen de bekendste Bond-auto’s uit, maar besteedt ook aandacht aan voertuigen die een kleinere, maar niet minder memorabele rol in de films hebben gespeeld. Juist die afwisseling maakt de collectie aantrekkelijk voor zowel James Bond-liefhebbers als verzamelaars van diecast-modellen.

Both miniatures are presented in the now-familiar movie poster blister packaging that has become a hallmark of MINI GT’s official 007 range.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage in ‘Weapons On’ configuration
The more spectacular of the two new releases is undoubtedly the Aston Martin V8 Vantage in its so-called Weapons Onconfiguration. In The Living Daylights, Timothy Dalton’s James Bond is supplied with a specially modified V8 Vantage for his mission in Austria, complete with an impressive array of gadgets. The sports car is equipped with missiles concealed behind the front fog lamps, retractable ski outriggers, lasers and a rocket-powered acceleration system.
The Aston Martin takes centre stage in one of the most spectacular chase sequences in the Bond series. As Bond and Kara Milovy flee from the Soviet authorities, the snow-covered mountains provide the backdrop for a breathtaking pursuit towards the Austrian border. Thanks to the car’s ingenious gadgets, Bond repeatedly stays one step ahead of his pursuers, until the Aston Martin is ultimately destroyed.
MINI GT has faithfully recreated this iconic Weapons On version. In 1:64 scale, the deployed weaponry and distinctive ski outriggers have been accurately reproduced, while the elegant lines of the Aston Martin have been carefully preserved. As a result, this model clearly stands apart from previous miniature versions of the V8 Vantage.
Ford Mustang Convertible from Thunderball
The second new release takes collectors back more than twenty years. MINI GT is also introducing the 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible from Thunderball. Although this American convertible is less well known than the Aston Martins and Lotuses featured throughout the Bond series, it plays an important role in one of the film’s memorable scenes set in the Bahamas.
In the film, the white Mustang is driven by Fiona Volpe, the seductive SPECTRE agent who offers Bond a lift through the streets of Nassau. During the journey, she attempts to distract him, while Bond gradually begins to realise that Fiona is far more dangerous than she first appears. With its elegant open-top design and unmistakable 1960s styling, the Mustang provides the perfect contrast to the growing tension between the two characters.
MINI GT has carefully recreated the convertible in 1:64 scale, capturing the classic proportions and distinctive details of the original 1965 Ford Mustang. The result is a welcome addition to the ever-growing line-up of vehicles from the early Bond films.
International packaging
As with previous releases, both models will be available in several international packaging variants. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage will be released in English, German, Japanese, Spanish and Chinese blister packaging, while the Ford Mustang Convertible will be available with English, Spanish, Japanese, French and Chinese movie poster artwork. These regional packaging variations have themselves become highly collectable among MINI GT James Bond enthusiasts.
Since launching its official 007 range, MINI GT has earned a strong reputation for combining impressive levels of detail with official licensing and an accessible price point. Rather than focusing solely on Bond’s most famous cars, the manufacturer also shines a spotlight on vehicles that played smaller, yet equally memorable, roles throughout the film series. It is precisely this variety that makes the collection so appealing to both James Bond fans and die-cast collectors alike.
