Na eerdere uitgaven van onder meer de Aston Martin DB5, Aston Martin DBS, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Toyota 2000GT Roadster en AMC Hornet, zijn nu twee totaal verschillende, maar minstens zo memorabele filmauto’s aangekondigd: de Lotus Esprit S1 Submarine uit The Spy Who Loved Me en de Citroën 2CV uit For Your Eyes Only.
Met deze nieuwste toevoegingen richt MINI GT zich opnieuw op de meest legendarische achtervolgingen en voertuigen uit de Bond-franchise. Beide modellen verschijnen in schaal 1:64 en zijn voorzien van speciale blisterverpakkingen met originele filmposterillustraties in meerdere talen.
De absolute blikvanger van deze release is zonder twijfel de Lotus Esprit S1 Submarine. In The Spy Who Loved Me rijdt Roger Moore als James Bond aanvankelijk in de witte sportwagen langs de kust van Sardinië, totdat de auto tijdens een spectaculaire achtervolging het water in duikt. Daar transformeert de Esprit in een volledig functionerende onderzeeër, compleet met periscopen, vinnen en torpedolanceerders. De scène groeide uit tot een van de meest iconische momenten uit de complete Bond-serie en behoort nog altijd tot de meest besproken voertuigstunts uit de filmgeschiedenis. Het model is zorgvuldig vormgegeven en legt de karakteristieke lijnen en bijzondere details van de beroemde “Wet Nellie” overtuigend vast in miniatuurvorm. De Lotus verschijnt in verschillende internationale blistervarianten, waaronder een Engelse, Hongaarse, Italiaanse, Japanse en een speciale China Edition.
Minstens zo geliefd onder Bond-fans is de Citroën 2CV uit For Your Eyes Only. Waar James Bond doorgaans achter het stuur zit van exclusieve sportwagens, wordt hij in deze film onverwachts gedwongen te vluchten in een felgele Franse volksauto. Samen met Melina Havelock ontsnapt Bond aan zijn achtervolgers tijdens een spectaculaire achtervolging over smalle bergwegen, stoffige paden en door olijfgaarden.
Juist het contrast tussen de bescheiden 2CV en de krachtige Peugeot 504’s van de achtervolgers maakt deze scène zo memorabel. Dankzij het lage gewicht en de verrassende wendbaarheid weet de eenvoudige Citroën zich uitstekend staande te houden, wat resulteert in een van de meest vermakelijke achtervolgingen uit de Roger Moore-periode. MINI GT heeft ook deze filmauto natuurgetrouw gereproduceerd in schaal 1:64. De karakteristieke carrosserie, de opvallende gele kleur en het charmante Franse ontwerp zijn zorgvuldig vertaald naar een gedetailleerd verzamelmodel. De Citroën verschijnt in Engelse, Franse, Japanse en China Edition-verpakkingen.
De James Bond Collection van MINI GT groeit daarmee uit tot een fraaie dwarsdoorsnede van ruim zestig jaar Bond-geschiedenis. Van de elegante Aston Martin DB5 uit Goldfinger en de robuuste Aston Martin V8 Vantage uit The Living Daylights tot de open Toyota 2000GT Roadster uit You Only Live Twice, de AMC Hornet uit The Man with the Golden Gun en nu de spectaculaire Lotus Esprit Submarine en de sympathieke Citroën 2CV: iedere release brengt een nieuw stukje filmgeschiedenis naar de vitrinekast.
Een officiële releasedatum voor beide modellen is nog niet bekendgemaakt, maar de aankondiging maakt duidelijk dat MINI GT zijn succesvolle samenwerking met de James Bond-licentie onverminderd voortzet. Uit foto’s van diverse speelgoedbeurzen wereldwijd is te zien dat we nog veel meer kunnen verwachten: de Tuktuk uit Octopussy, diverse Ford Mustang en ook de gewone wegversie van de Lotus Esprit uit The Spy Who Loved Me.

Following previous releases including the Aston Martin DB5, Aston Martin DBS, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Toyota 2000GT Roadster and AMC Hornet, MINI GT has now announced two completely different, yet equally memorable, vehicles from the James Bond films: the Lotus Esprit S1 Submarine from The Spy Who Loved Me and the Citroën 2CV from For Your Eyes Only.
With these latest additions, MINI GT once again celebrates some of the most legendary vehicles and chase sequences from the James Bond franchise. Both models are produced in 1:64 scale and are presented in special blister packaging featuring original movie poster artwork in multiple languages.
The undisputed highlight of this release is the Lotus Esprit S1 Submarine. In The Spy Who Loved Me, Roger Moore’s James Bond is first seen driving the white sports car along the Sardinian coastline before, during a spectacular chase, it plunges into the sea. Once underwater, the Esprit transforms into a fully operational submarine complete with periscopes, fins and torpedo launchers. The sequence became one of the most iconic moments in the entire Bond series and remains one of the most celebrated vehicle stunts in cinema history.
MINI GT has faithfully recreated the submarine configuration in 1:64 scale, capturing the distinctive lines and intricate details of the famous “Wet Nellie” in miniature form. The Lotus will be available in several international blister editions, including English, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese and a special China Edition. Equally popular with Bond fans is the Citroën 2CV from For Your Eyes Only. While James Bond is usually found behind the wheel of an exotic sports car, in this film he is unexpectedly forced to make his escape in a bright yellow French economy car. Together with Melina Havelock, Bond outruns his pursuers during a thrilling chase across narrow mountain roads, dusty tracks and olive groves.
It is precisely the contrast between the humble 2CV and the powerful Peugeot 504s driven by the villains that makes the sequence so memorable. Thanks to its lightweight construction and surprising agility, the little Citroën more than holds its own, resulting in one of the most entertaining chase scenes of the Roger Moore era. MINI GT has faithfully reproduced the film car in 1:64 scale, accurately capturing its distinctive bodywork, vibrant yellow paintwork and unmistakable French charm. The Citroën will be available in English, French, Japanese and China Edition blister packaging.
With these latest releases, the MINI GT James Bond Collection continues to grow into an impressive celebration of more than sixty years of Bond history.
