De samenwerking tussen James Bond en OMEGA gaat een compleet nieuw tijdperk in. Niet langer vormt alleen de bioscoop het decor voor een exclusief 007-horloge; voor het eerst haalt OMEGA inspiratie uit een videogame.
De Zwitserse horlogemaker heeft officieel de Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph “007 First Light” onthuld, een model dat rechtstreeks afkomstig is uit de aankomende game 007 First Light van IO Interactive en Amazon MGM Studios. Daarmee schrijft OMEGA opnieuw Bond-geschiedenis. Sinds Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye uit 1995 een Seamaster droeg, zijn de horloges van het merk onlosmakelijk verbonden met de Britse geheim agent. Maar waar eerdere modellen gebaseerd waren op films zoals Casino Royale of No Time To Die, is dit de eerste keer dat een digitale Bond creatief de basis vormt voor een echte release.
De nieuwe Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph is allesbehalve subtiel. Het horloge heeft een forse 44 mm roestvrijstalen kast en combineert zwarte keramische details met bronzen accenten die verwijzen naar militaire uitrusting en vintage instrumenten. De zwarte aluminium bezel en lasergegraveerde keramische wijzerplaat geven het model een tactische uitstraling die perfect past bij de jongere Bond-versie uit de game.
OMEGA koos bovendien voor een zwart-grijs-beige NATO-band, een duidelijke knipoog naar de militaire esthetiek van de populaire Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition uit No Time To Die. Ook de beige Super-LumiNova op de indexen versterkt dat retro-spionagegevoel. Volgens OMEGA moest het horloge eruitzien alsof het rechtstreeks uit Q Branch afkomstig was.
In de kast bevindt zich de Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, een automatisch chronograafuurwerk dat door METAS gecertificeerd is. Het uurwerk biedt een gangreserve van ongeveer 60 uur en beschikt over de antimagnetische eigenschappen waar OMEGA de laatste jaren sterk op inzet. Zoals verwacht bij een Seamaster Diver blijft de waterdichtheid behouden tot 300 meter.
Opvallend is hoe sterk OMEGA en IO Interactive de grens tussen fictie en realiteit laten vervagen. In de game krijgt Bond toegang tot een versie van het horloge met ingebouwde gadgets, waaronder een laserfunctie en hacking-tools. Hoewel die functies uiteraard ontbreken op het echte model, gebruikt OMEGA de game volop als onderdeel van de marketingcampagne. Daarmee richt het merk zich nadrukkelijk op een jongere generatie Bond-fans én gamers. De online reacties zijn voorlopig verdeeld. Veel Bond-fans prijzen het gedurfde ontwerp en het feit dat OMEGA opnieuw experimenteert binnen de 007-lijn. Tegelijkertijd klinkt er kritiek op de forse afmetingen van het horloge. Op Reddit omschrijven sommige verzamelaars het model als “een muurklok voor de pols”, terwijl anderen vooral de dikte van ruim 17 mm te groot vinden voor dagelijks gebruik.
Toch lijkt OMEGA zich weinig aan te trekken van die kritiek. Het merk zet al jaren in op opvallende limited editions en storytelling rond James Bond. De Seamaster Diver 300M “007 First Light” past perfect binnen die strategie: een horloge dat niet alleen een luxeproduct is, maar ook een verzamelobject voor fans van de franchise.

The Swiss watchmaker has officially unveiled the Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph “007 First Light”, a model taken directly from the upcoming game 007 First Light by IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios. In doing so, OMEGA is once again making Bond history. Ever since Pierce Brosnan wore a Seamaster in 1995’s GoldenEye, the brand’s watches have been inseparably linked with the British secret agent. However, while previous models were based on films such as Casino Royale or No Time To Die, this marks the first time that a digital Bond has served as the creative foundation for a real-world release.
The new Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph is anything but subtle. The watch features a substantial 44 mm stainless steel case and combines black ceramic details with bronze accents that reference military equipment and vintage instruments. The black aluminium bezel and laser-engraved ceramic dial give the model a tactical appearance that perfectly suits the younger version of Bond featured in the game.
OMEGA has also opted for a black, grey and beige NATO strap, a clear nod to the military aesthetic of the popular Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition from No Time To Die. The beige Super-LumiNova on the indexes further enhances the retro espionage feel. According to OMEGA, the watch was designed to look as though it had come straight from Q Branch.
Inside the case is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, an automatic chronograph movement certified by METAS. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours and features the anti-magnetic technology that OMEGA has strongly focused on in recent years. As expected from a Seamaster Diver, the watch remains water-resistant to 300 metres.
What is particularly striking is how strongly OMEGA and IO Interactive are blurring the line between fiction and reality. In the game, Bond gains access to a version of the watch equipped with built-in gadgets, including a laser function and hacking tools. While those features are naturally absent from the real model, OMEGA is heavily using the game as part of its marketing campaign. In doing so, the brand is clearly targeting a younger generation of Bond fans as well as gamers.
Online reactions have so far been mixed. Many Bond fans have praised the bold design and the fact that OMEGA is once again experimenting within the 007 collection. At the same time, criticism has emerged regarding the watch’s substantial dimensions. On Reddit, some collectors have described the model as “a wall clock for the wrist”, while others feel its thickness of more than 17 mm is simply too large for everyday wear.
Nevertheless, OMEGA appears largely unfazed by the criticism. For years, the brand has focused on striking limited editions and storytelling centred around James Bond. The Seamaster Diver 300M “007 First Light” fits perfectly within that strategy: a watch that is not only a luxury product, but also a collector’s item for fans of the franchise.
